Part of the UK was rocked by a 5.1 magnitude earthquake early this morning.

People in Northern Scotland woke up to ‘shaking and rumbling sounds’ at 5:30 am this morning.

The quake hit beneath the earth’s surface in the Norwegian Sea, according to the United States Geological Survey.

It was felt in Shetland, Aberdeen, Ellon, Stonehaven, Helmsdale, Inverurie, Lairg, Huntly, Banff, and Fraserburgh, The British Geological Survey said.
