The New York Daily News is reporting that New York Democratic officials are trying to convince Chelsea Clinton to run for the seat, which is being vacated by 82-year-old Rep. Nita Lowey, D-N.Y.
The source informed the Daily News top officials in the Westchester County Democratic Party have discussed with Chelsea the possibility of running for the soon to be opened seat.
The source said that Clinton did not mention wanting to run for office, and party officials decided to approach her hours after Lowery announced her retirement.
The source told the Daily News, “If you’re a Clinton and you need a hook, this is a good one.”
Lowey’s congressional district includes Chappaqua, where Clinton’s parents live.
The House Appropriations Committee chair said on October 9, 2019, that after over 30 years in Congress, she would be retiring.
Lowey told the Daily News in a phone interview: “I love the job. I would love it probably for another ten years, but, frankly, 32 years is a great career. For me, it is so rewarding, but there comes a time…and I thought, this is the time.”
