Six months ago an alter boy accused Cardinal Theodore McCarrick of sexual abuse.  Crux is reporting that three cases of sexual abuse are presently being investigated by the Vatican against the McCarrick.  Crux also stated that one of the cases has not been reported in public as of yet.

In June, 2018, the Archdiocese of New York stated that a review committee had confirmed and verified claims of sexual abuse brought up against Cardinal McCarrick. A former altar boy came forward and stated that McCarrick abused him at St. Patrick’s twice, once in 1971 and a second occurrence in 1972.

McCarrick was suspended by the Vatican from performing any duties in public ministry until an investigation was completed by the Holy See.

The New York Times also reported the case involving James Grein who was the child of the McCarrick family friend.

Grein accused the priest of sexually abusing him for years which begin when he was 11-years-old in the 1970s.

Due to the multiple allegations of sexual abuse and misconduct, Pope Francis accepted McCarrick’s resignation from the College of Cardinals.

Crux is reporting that they confirmed that yet another third case is being investigated by New York’s Archdiocese. The accuser who has yet to come forward in public allegedly reported the sexual abuse case about three months ago. The victim is in his forties and alleges that the sexual abuse happened when he was underage.

The details of this particular case are unknown. However, like Grein he is said to have been the child of a family friend.

The cases of Grein and the altar boy who has yet to reveal himself are presently being investigated by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) which is the branch of the Vatican. It reviews sex abuse claims surrounding the clergy.

No criminal charges have been filed against McCarrick as of yet.

The director of communications for the New York Archdiocese, Joseph Zwilling stated that the Holy See has asked all the diocese that McCarrick had been affiliated with to review the time he spent there. The review, specifically from the Archdiocese of New York, will be conducted by Judge Jones. The Holy See will handle anything else pertaining to McCarrick.

Judge Barbara Jones was hired by Cardinal Timothy Dolan to review any cases pertaining to sexual abuse that has taken place in New York. She previously worked as a federal judge.

Crux confirmed with a Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) official that there is a third case of sexual abuse against McCarrick. It is presently being investigated. No further information or comment is forthcoming from the CDF.

The Associated Press, on December 28, 2018, reported that Grein testified in front of New York’s Archdiocese judicial victor by request of the CDF regarding McCarrick. Patrick Noaker the attorney for Grein stated that some of the sexual misconduct happened while in confession.

Former Cardinal McCarrick is 88 years old and resides in a religious residence in Kansas.

Crux has verified with two sources that in mid-January the CDC will meet to review the findings of the multiple cases McCarrick is involved with. Potentially, there will be a disposition by the end of January

The Holy See has not issued a statement or report regarding any findings they have obtained from the investigation.
