Coronavirus has changed the music business due to lockdowns and social distancing. Global News Ink will be interviewing artists from the award-winning dance music promotions company Sobel Promotions (www.sobelpromotions.com) to learn how the music business is being altered by the global pandemic.

Grammy Nominee StoneBridge gives his thoughts.

What was the last thing you did musically prior to Coronavirus lockdown?

The thing is that I have the luxury of having my studios in the same house as I live so technically, it’s business as usual except the live gigs.

What do you see has happened to the music business since social distancing and lockdown?

I have been thinking about this a lot and come to the conclusion that there will be a purge of sorts both in the music industry and other areas as a result of this shutdown. There’s a lot of old thinking still around in a new world of listening and consuming music.

During the lockdown, people have more time to listen and a lot of connections have been done, DJs playing sets, posting mixshows etc. I think this artist to crowd direct approach will grow.

What are you doing musically now?

Working on a remix for a Canadian band called Gingerales & Monowhales and it’s going really well. Love the song and the mix will be epic!

We were told things will never go back to the way they were prior to Coronavirus until we discover a vaccine. If social distancing remains, what do you think the future of the music business would look like?

It will disappear eventually – vaccine or not. I think it will go back to a sort of normal, but as predicted above, not the same as before. There are a lot of tragic stories of small business going under, but in a longer perspective, we will get through this.

Do you have any advice to DJ’s and artists on how to remain relevant and keep their names out there during lockdown?

Mix shows, special mixes for different vibes – like Ibiza style, lounge, club sounds, classics. Share songs that inspire, people love that – getting to know the artist!
