Democratic Representative Andrew Stoddard announced Tuesday, January 26, 2021, that he is opening a bill file to explore impeaching Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes for his involvement in lawsuits regarding the results of the 2020 presidential election and for his ties to groups that were involved with the attacks on the United States Capitol earlier this month.

In a statement on social media, Stoddard wrote that “as a member of the legislature, our options for investigation of another branch of government are GRAMA requests or impeachment. There is no middle ground.”

Stoddard stated that because of this, impeachment seemed like the best option to investigate the attorney general, and wrote that “while impeachment is not necessarily the goal, based on what the investigation uncovers, it may be the potential outcome.”
