Police investigated an unfounded report of a bomb threat at the Empire State Building Sunday, December 27, 2020, and determined the landmark building to be safe, according to the New York Police Department.

A spokesperson for the police department told Global News Ink an individual called 911 just after 11 a.m. and stated a bomb would go off at the building at noon.

The NYPD’s bomb squad responded to the location and determined the threat to be unfounded.

The investigation comes just two days after an explosion in Downtown Nashville on Christmas morning. The blast took place on a mostly deserted street and was prefaced by a recorded message advising those near the location to evacuate.

Federal investigators have been searching the home of a possible person of interest in the event, which is being called a suicide bombing.
